Ste­via, de­rived from the herb ste­via re­bau­di­ana, can be used as a nat­u­ral sweet­ener in herbal teas in­stead of sugar. Ste­via does not el­e­vate blood sugar lev­els, im­proves in­sulin sen­si­tiv­ity, and as it has no calo­ries; it’s com­pletely safe for di­a­bet­ics.

Honey is nat­u­ral, but its gly­caemic in­dex is higher than that of sugar, and has more calo­ries. It should be used spar­ingly or avoided al­to­gether.
