Filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari (right), who made a successful directorial debut with Nil Battey Sannata (2016), says that she is very particular about the kind of scripts she chooses. Tiwari says that she prefers simple stories. She also points out that for her, casting is pivotal and plays a major role in the success of a film.

About her next film, she says, “I don’t want to reveal much. But the film is yet again a slice of life story. And it’s diagonally opposite from Nil Battey Sannata. We are almost ready with the film. I hope this time too, I will be able to connect with the audience through the story.”

“The kind of films I make cannot be put in the commercial or parallel cinema category. My work falls somewhere in between the two. Budget-wise also, my films aren’t very expensive. So it’s the story and casting, I focus more on,” adds Tiwari.

On her decision to choose someone like Kriti Sanon (above) as the female lead, Tiwari says, “Kriti was keen on exploring different kinds of films. Also, there is this spark in the girl. I think, she will go far, given her dedication and hard work. You will understand when you watch the film,” she adds.

On the success of her husband and filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s film, Dangal (2016), she says: “We worked hard in every department. Then, of course, the actors also gave their full efforts. Not to mention Aamir (Khan) sir’s dedication. We were all making the film with our hearts. So, somewhere we had a feeling that we were taking the right road.”
