‘Two years back, I was fatter, depressed’

Actor Dalljiet Kaur (below) and Shaleen Bhanot filed for divorce last year. Stating the reason for their separation as domestic violence, Dalljiet had accused Shaleen of trying to strangle her and harassing her for dowry; claims that were refuted by her ex-husband. However, the divorce came through recently.

Talking about the struggle and trauma that she went through during the last two years, Dalljiet says she has emerged as a stronger woman. “Life couldn’t be better,” she says, adding, “I’m happier and stronger now. My son, Jaydon is happy and healthy. When he smiles once, I smile ten times.” While this new lease of life comes a complete makeover for the actor, Dalljiet has lost 25kg and says she has never felt so fitter. “This is one of the biggest highs of my life. I realised that I need to start losing weight in a drastic way. I was sitting at home and sulking. One day, while looking in the mirror, I was like, ‘Who the hell is she — the old fat Dalljiet?’ I started working out right after that and two years later, I’m thinner than ever before. I’m healthier and the best part is that I can pick up my son and walk.”

With her TV show nearing its end, the actor is looking forward to do happy roles. “I was fatter, depressed and struggling back then. Now I’m a changed person. Till the time I get something, I’m enjoying my time with my son.”
