This style clearly belongs to the fashion goddesses!

The six-yard wonder has always been in fashion. We have seen various modern interpretations of the traditional Indian sari, but the elegance of the attire has never faded away. The current favourite of Bollywood’s fashion forwards is the belted sari. Actors Sonam Kapoor, Rakulpreet Singh and Shruti Haasan accessorised their saris with stylish belts.

Experts say the style belongs to the goddesses! “I have a beautiful painting of goddess Saraswati in my room, wearing a watermelon pink-belted sari. Even goddess Durga and Lakshmi wear saris with kamarbandhs. It’s a style inspired by goddesses,” says designer Rina Dhaka.

Designer Payal Khandwala says that the kamarbandh is making a comeback as belts worn over saris. “Kamarbandhs were a popular accessory. Belts can also similarly spice up a plain sari,” she says. Agrees designer Anupama Dayal. “I love belted saris. They work well for petite bodytypes.” For a formal look, designer Anavila Misra suggests teaming your belted sari with a shirt. “It will give a cool vibe that’s organised and no-nonsense,” says Misra.
