No bias in the film industry: Ronit Roy

Ronit Roy feels it’s the kind of work you do that counts in Bollywood, not one’s background

Actor Ronit Roy (left) is among the very few actors who have managed to strike a balance between their television and Bollywood careers. Despite consistently working in Bollywood films since the ‘90s and playing some powerful roles in recent films such as Kaabil, Guddu Rangeela (2015) and 2 States (2014), Ronit is primarily considered a television actor for portraying strong characters on small screen.

Ask him if he was ever treated like an outsider in the film industry at any point, Ronit says, “People I’ve worked with in films have been extremely kind. They have never given me that vibe that I come from a television background.”

The 51-year-old is all praise for the bigwigs such as Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Arjun Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, with whom he has shared screen space in the past. “Each one of them has made me feel very comfortable. And I don’t think that people in Bollywood are such that they would look down upon television actors,” says Ronit, adding that had it been the case, Bollywood would not have entertained people from TV at all in the first place.

“There is no bias. If you know your job and if you are fulfilling what is expected of you, why should there be any bias towards you?” adds Ronit. On whether, he would ever return to TV for a daily soap, the actor says, “Yes and why not? I never said I have graduated from television to Bollywood. It’s just that I am not doing TV shows right now as nothing interesting has been offered to me. Whatever has been offered to me is the same mundane stuff, which I don’t want to do.”
