‘My child knows his mom is ambitious’

Actor Kanika Maheshwari’s (left) role as the comic villain Meenakshi in the Diya Aur Baati Hum made her a household name. The actor says that she would be typecast, but the idea didn’t bother her. “I was associated with the show for five years and I know that people get typecast very easily in our industry. People thought that I can’t play anything besides a comic villain but thankfully that thought didn’t stay for long. After Diya Baati, I got many roles, like costume drama or mythological but I didn’t take it up. I am confident, a good actor and a survivor, so all this does not give me stress or sleepless nights,” she says.

Maheshwari, mother of a two-year old son often finds herself balancing between her career and motherhood. “I get two hours before my shift, to take care of him. I go home during lunch break, make him sleep, come back again. That’s how we need to balance it and my child also knows that his mother is an ambitious woman,” she says.

The actor, who will be soon seen in the leap of the show, says life is tough for every working mother. “Taking care of career and kids goes hand in hand. We cannot have both the worlds and I cannot be a supermom but I always try to give time to my child,” she says.
