Anas didn’t even meet fiancée before saying yes

Actor Anas Rashid of TV show Diya Aur Baati Hum fame says he gave a nod to his mother’s proposal to marry Punjab-based girl Hina (inset) without even seeing a picture of her. Hina is 14 years younger to 38-year-old Anas. The wedding will take place later this year. “I had told Ammi that it’s her responsibility (to find him a bride) since I don’t have time. She told me about Hina, and asked if I’d like to see her picture. ‘I said no. I wanted my decision to be based on how her family is, rather than how she looks. The hope in my mother’s eyes was enough for me to agree. After I said yes, I saw her picture and then a formal meeting was arranged,” shares Anas. So, how was the meeting? “It was so awkward for us. We were made to sit together... I was just looking at her. She was shivering. It all happened in a typically traditional way,” says Anas, adding, “Hina carries herself well, I was impressed the first time I met her.”

Does their age gap bother anyone in the family? “Hina had no idea about my age, neither did her family. They thought I’m 25 or 26. Punjab mein agar kisi ko pata chalega ki I’m 38, toh yeh hi bolega that I’m very thin. I am young at heart. Hina is so sensible, even at 24,” says Anas.

Fans have been wondering why not a bride from the TV industry. “For my family, the fact that I’m working in this industry is enough... Agar bahu bhi kaam karegi, toh ghar pe kaun rahega?” laughs Anas.
