Om Puri’s widow calls Pak anchor ‘a joker’
The video was shown on [Pakistani news anchor] Aamir Liaquat’s show and is he a joker in Pakistan,” says Nandita Puri, widow of veteran actor Om Puri (in picture), who died on January 6 this year, referring to the video footage claiming Om Puri’s ghost was haunting outside his Mumbai residence. The video went viral after it was shown recently on an Indian news channel.
Talking exclusively to HT, Nandita says that it’s a serious matter and she won’t let it go like that. “We are getting the intelligence [agencies] to track it down… According to my sources, Liaquat was given this [video] by somebody in India and there are many people involved who have scripted this whole thing, which is disgraceful and in extremely bad taste,” she says.
“The video,” she adds, “was shot in a night vision CCTV camera and we have traced the building. Of course it’s not where Om lived. He won’t live in a shoddy building, but it’s very close to our house.”
She points out the use of words like “aatma ki shanti” in the video to emphasise that it was scripted in India and then sent to the Pakistani anchor.
What could be the reason? “Just harassment,” says Nandita. “There were people who were after Om’s money and not very happy with the kind of adulation he got in the West. These people [behind this video] have hurt me, my son and the entire nation.”
