Set for a hat-trick again?

- Prashant Singh

They have already teamed up on two hits – Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan – in the past. And now, Salman Khan and filmmaker Kabir Khan have their new Eid biggie, Tubelight coming up.

It’s not just Salman-Kabir, but a number of other actordirector pairs are set to work together for the third time (more than that in some cases). “I am fortunate that we worked together thrice because not only I did I get the greatest superstar of the country but I also managed to do three very different films with him. We were equally passionate about the films,” says Kabir.

While Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are shooting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on their third film together, Padmavati, after Goliyon Ki Raasleela RamLeela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015), Ranbir Kapoor will start shooting with Ayan Mukerji after working together in Wake Up Sid (2009) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewaani (2013). Likewise, Shraddha Kapoor’s third project with Mohit Suri, Half Girlfriend hit theatres last Friday. In the past too, they have worked on Aashiqui 2 (2013) and Ek Villain (2014). All the actors say that working repeatedly with a director helps in a big way. As Ranveer puts it, “Bhansali sir is a genius. He pushes you beyond your own boundaries. I hope he casts me in all his films.” Deepika concurs. “You know, when I shot for Padmavati, I remember that schedule being peaceful, despite some difficult scenes. There was calm in the air. I don’t know if it comes from the fact that I have worked with Sanjay sir before and that the relationship has evolved. There was something magical,” she says.

Shraddha, too, admits that it felt “awesome” working with Mohit again. “When you work with someone for the third time, there’s a special bond,” she says.
