‘You can’t get too used to social media’

- Prashant Singh

Katrina Kaif joined Facebook last year on her birthday. Then, a few weeks ago, she made her debut on Instagram. Has that added some distraction to her life? “I was actually thinking about it the other day. But for me, it’s all about making it a non-existent [part of your life]. You can’t get too used to it and dedicate an unreasonable amount of time to it,” she says.

The actor says that social media interaction is “something that you do very casually” and “hopefully, you put out only a certain amount of things or moments, which are candid, special and fun”.

Revealing that on the sets, “I never have my phone with me vis-à-vis taking calls or anything else”, she adds, “I probably look at my phone only twice in the whole day if I am on a film set.”

Interestingly, Katrina says that the “phone culture itself can take over your life”. Her strategy is to be “a bit conscious” — she puts it away or hands the phone to her assistant when shooting.

She recently shot for the film Tiger Zinda Hai, being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, who had also directed her in his first film, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. “Ali’s first film was with me, so I can see the growth now, after Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

“Sultan (also directed by Ali) was a wonderful film. I could see that because I know him at the personal level, and I felt good seeing that there was a big change in him as a director.”
