TRAVELLING WITH THE STARS
Gul Panag and Shilpa Shetty Kundra share their travel experiences
My husband (Raj Kundra), son (Viaan Raj Kundra) and I travel for sure during Christmas and the summer vacations to London because Raj’s family lives there. But our most memorable trip has been to the Maldives because both Raj and Viaan are water babies. Before Viaan was born, we went with both sides of our extended family on a cruise. I enjoyed that holiday because we all got to spend a lot of time with each other. In India, we’ve always had a good time in Jaipur. We used to go there earlier for the IPL matches, and now because we love staying at the Rambaugh Palace. You’re one with nature there. Seeing peacocks in the mornings while you relax in the room is one of my most cherished experiences. Now, we look at more kidfriendly destinations. But I make sure it has a spa because I love getting pampered. We also look for places that serve good food. All of us are foodies and there has to be something for everyone on offer.
All our lives are fast-paced and we’re constantly among people. So while I do get quality time with my family, I don’t always get the quantity. The holiday is the only time we’re all free to enjoy each other’s company. Raj is the vacation planner in our family and he plans them at least six months in advance. My first holiday as a family was to Goa in the mid-80s.
The one travel tip I’d like to share is to always carry a small medical kit wherever you go, especially if you’re travelling with kids. Viaan once fell ill when we were staying in the Maldives. Our hotel was located on its own island and we had to send someone in the middle of the night to another place to search for medication. Also, travel light. Travelling with excess baggage just brings you down on a trip.”
