I wanted to make a Bollywood film with a Punjabi flavour: Gippy
Punjabi actor-singer Gippy Grewal (right) is quite content with the way his career is shaping up. He has come a long way since the release of his first single, Gabru in 2007. Gippy recently signed a fivesong deal with music giant T-series and released his first single titled Car Nachdi, under the banner.
“It’s a peppy number and we’ve shot extensively in Los Angeles along with rapper Bohemia. Usually, you see girls dancing in music videos, but here, my car goes in a dancing mode on seeing a girl,” laughs the actor, who has been a part of films such as Carry on Jatta (2012) and Manje Bistre, which fared well at the boxoffice. He will next share screen space with actor Farhan Akhtar in a film helmed by filmmaker Nikkhil Advani.
While shooting for the film, he met, Bhushan Kumar of T-series and the two agreed to make a movie together. He says, “My last film Manje Bistre did so well and the figures were unbelievable. Realising this reach of Punjabi cinema, Bhushan Kumar said that we should plan a film together. I told him that I wanted to make a Bollywood film with a Punjabi flavour. And he said that we should make it big.”
Gippy also had a story in mind, which he narrated to Bhushan. He says, “As soon as I was done, he was on board. I have already started working on the screenplay. I will also compose the music for this one,” he adds. Gippy will play the main lead in the film and rest of the cast is yet-to-be finalised.
