I took me a while to get out of the character I’ve played, says Sridevi

Debutant director Ravi Udyawar’s Mom, starring Sridevi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna, is a thriller drama. The lead actors talk about the film.

Sridevi, since you’re a mother in real life, did your character affect you personally?

It definitely affected me emotionally. I was in a shell. It took me a while to get out of the character. By the end of the shoot, my daughters said, “Thank God you’re back to being normal.”

Nawazuddin recently said that you are his favourite actor. How was your experience of working with him?

It was wonderful. I’m also a big fan of his work. To watch him transform into his look and character was such a learning experience.

Nawazuddin, what made you choose this role?

It gave me the opportunity to work with a legend like Sridevi. When Ravi showed me the look he had in mind, I jumped at it — it gave me the chance to not only do something very different but also look different.

Akshaye, are you excited about being back on screen?

I’m very excited. Mom finally gave me the chance to work with Sridevi. Also, I’m always on the lookout for a great script, good people to work with and Mom gave me that opportunity.

Produced by Zee Studios, Sunil Manchanda, Naresh Agarwal, Mukesh Talreja, Gautam Jain, and Boney Kapoor, Mom releases today.
