Roja actor Madhoo (far right) is all praise for Ramya Krishnan, (right) and her role as Sivagami Devi, in SS Rajamouli’s film Baahubali. “She is a stupendous actor. Her work is proof of that, and I’m not saying this because Ramya is a close friend of mine,” says Madhoo.

According to reports, there were many choices for the role of Sivagami, including Sridevi, who the makers had to drop owing to her “starry demands.” However, Madhoo says it usually happens that a role is offered to several actors, and a few refuse it while others get rejected, but at the end what matters is who finally portrays the role on screen. “The role of Sivagami might have been offered to 10 other people, but that’s not important. I think the movie had to go to Ramya,” says Madhoo. “She was destined to play Sivagami. When I was making my debut with Phool Aur Kante (1991), I was told that some other actor was supposed to play the part. But at the end, I played the role and the film was a hit,” she adds.

Madhoo is now all set to make her small screen debut, where she will play the role of a queen. There were stories doing rounds that her role on the TV show is similar to that of Sivagami. About this, Madhoo says, “When I heard the news, I called up Ramya and we had a good laugh. It feels good when such things happen—your role gets compared to another character that is being played by a close friend. But there is no similarity between the characters.”
