As Sridevi turns 54 today, we list some of the lesser-known facts about the evergreen actor

Sridevi never fails to mesmerise her fans and critics with her acting prowess. She began her acting career with Thunaivan (1969) at the age of four and till now remains one of the most sought after actors in Bollywood as well as regional cinema. She was also the highest paid actor of her time and received the ‘superstar’ tag. Some interestin­g trivia about her.

Sridevi was a child artiste in the film, Julie (1975) and made her Bollywood debut as the lead with Solva Saavan (1979).

Sridevi spells her name as Sreedevi. But, she never corrected the spelling of her name in film credits.

Sridevi was down with high fever, when she was shooting for the song Na Jaane Kaha Se Aayi Hai in Chalbaaz (1989).

Sridevi was considered to play a brief role in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993). However, she declined the offer as she was busy with her films in Bollywood.

Sridevi’s mother tongue is Tamil, so she faced difficulty in speaking Hindi. Yesteryear actor Naaz used to dub for her. For her role in Chandni (1989), she dubbed for the first time.

Jaya Prada was Sridevi’s strongest competitor and the two actors didn’t share a cordial relationsh­ip. During the shooting of Maqsad (1984), actors Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra locked them in a room to help break the ice. But when they opened the door, both Sridevi and Jaya were sitting silently in the two corners of the room.

During 80s, Sridevi allegedly had a love affair with Mithun Chakrabort­y. It was even rumoured that they had secretly married in a temple. Hearing this news, Mithun’s then wife, Yogita Bali tried to commit suicide and their relation fell apart. Later, while nursing her broken heart, Sridevi fell in love with filmmaker Boney Kapoor.

Sridevi played both super star NTR’s granddaugh­ter and love interest in a few films.
