After his outstanding performance in Bareilly Ki Barfi, National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao (above, centre) is now set to play a rookie clerk, named Newton Kumar, in a film titled Newton.

This dark comedy, helmed by Amit V. Masurkar, revolves around a clerk who is deputed to conduct elections in an isolated jungle in Chhattisgarh, braving the pervasive fear of a Maoist attack. The trailer of the film will be out today on Eros Now.

The film has an ensemble cast that also includes Pankaj Tripathi of Masaan fame, Anjali Patil, and Raghubir Yadav. Talking about working with his co-stars, Rajkummar says, “It was great collaborating with such fine actors like Raghubir Yadav sir and Pankaj Tripathi. Amit is such a talented director and he has made a very special film for all of us.”

Manish Mundra, producer of the film and founder of Drishyam Films, says, “I was blown away by the heartwarming way in which Amit has woven the narrative of this great Indian democracy, with equal parts pathos and humour.”

Aanand L. Rai, who is presenting the film, says, “Despite being the largest democracy in the world, India has a chaotic and elaborate election process. For me, Newton has not just been an entertaining watch but also a learning experience. This film will definitely leave the audience with a deep thought and a big smile.”

Presented by Eros International and Aanand L. Rai, a Drishyam Production in association with Colour Yellow Productions, Newton will release on September 22, 2017
