The first Hindi film to be shot in the jungles of Chhattisgarh

-

The trailer of Newton is creating a lot of buzz, and the reason for it is the unusual storyline of the film that has people intrigued. The film is about Newton Kumar, a government clerk who is trying to conduct free and fair elections in a conflict-ridden jungle, braving up to the fear of Naxalite attacks and battling other odds. Actor Rajkummar Rao, who is know as a powerful performer, will be seen as Newton.

The black comedy, that has already been screened at various international film festivals, is the first film to be shot on location in the jungles of Chhattisgarh. To stick to natural ambience, Romil Modi, the casting director of the film went to remote areas of the state and met with around 400 adivasis, in order to cast them in the film. The movie’s casting process was a trying one, because the Gondi people who were auditioned, had never even watched a movie before, nor had any idea about the camera.

Speaking about it, director of the film, Amit V Masurkar, says, “We soon realised that they were comfortable in their own skin, and the presence of the camera wasn’t something that bothered them.” The makers also used natural light and sounds from the jungle.

The film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghuvir Yadav. Eros International and Aanand L Rai present Newton, a Drishyam Films Production in association with Colour Yellow Productions, written and directed by Amit V. Masurkar. The film releases on September 22.
