Bhushan Kumar talks about why a biopic based on his late father, Gulshan Kumar, starring Akshay Kumar is close to his heart

He has been handling the family business for 20 years, since his father, Gulshan Kumar died. T Series honcho Bhushan Kumar, speaks to us about juggling multiple projects, his career path and making a biopic on his father, starring Akshay Kumar.

How do you handle multiple projects at one go?

Right from the start, I have been interested in keeping notes of everything, so I have diaries filled with what all I have to do. I believe that if you want to master any business, you should know it inside out. Now, film-making and music creation are entrenched in my system.

There are so many films which you are producing now. How do you keep a tab on the quality of the films?

It’s not just me, there are other creative people who involved in those films. I am concerned mainly about marketing, which is done by my team. But the strategy to market films – more or less — remains the same. There are people who say that they want to market [films] differently, but they don’t realise that there’s a fixed strategy to do it.

How close is your father Guslhan Kumar’s biopic, Mogul, to your heart?

Mogul is ‘the’ film for us. I have got an opportunity to make a film on my father and it’s the biggest opportunity for me, and also extremely close to my heart. For our company, this is our biggest task and not only in terms of the budget. We are not making it from a commercial point of view at all.
