I don’t know what pressure is, says Sunny Deol

Actor Sunny Deol on doing a film that dealt with a sexual taboo, a fluctuating career graph, and making comebacks

Actor Sunny Deol recently made a comeback on the big screen with Poster Boys. While the film didn’t make a lot of noise at the box office, Sunny was happy that he got to portray a character completely opposite to the audience’s set notions about him. Being a part of a film that dealt with a sexual taboo like vasectomy, when asked if it was the perfect timing since quite a films based on taboo subjects are being made at the same time, Sunny says it’s mere coincidence.

“You see, all of a sudden, these films released back to back and people enjoyed them too. It’s not that sab kar rahe hain toh chalo hum bhi waise hi picture bana dein (it wasn’t that we decided to make a film about a taboo subject just because everyone was doing it). And even if all these filmmakers thought of these ideas together, I’m sure they wouldn’t have released them at the same time.”

In his career spanning over three decades, Sunny has been a part of hit films such as Betaab, Ghayal, Damini, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, among others and has seen various films that sunk at the box office without notice. Sunny feels that the current lull in box-office collections that the Hindi film industry is facing, is nothing new, adding that every time he is asked questions about his career, he gets amused.

“When such questions come my way, I feel like asking them back ‘what have you seen of the past?’ The reality of the whole thing is that it is a cycle — kabhi logon ko films achchi lagti hain, kabhi nahi lagti, but we can’t sulk all the time.”

Unlike actors who take unnecessary pressure when they return to the screen after a hiatus, Sunny believes in taking it easy. “I don’t take any pressure about anything. I don’t know what pressure is because you can’t move ahead if you think about such things,” says the actor.
