Apple kills Weinstein-backed biopic

-

Tech giant Apple has terminated the deal with disgraced Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein’s production house for a series on music legend Elvis Presley. The move follows sexual harassment allegations against the film producer. He was ousted from his own firm, The Weinstein Company as co-chairman after the uproar.

The Elvis project was in the initial stages, barely past the deal-making step, which made it easier for Apple to pull the plug, sources told Deadline.

An insider also revealed that there was an idea to expand the series into an anthology franchise, which would have followed stories of Prince and Michael Jackson in subsequent chapters.

Weinstein’s name will now be removed from all ongoing TWC TV series on which he had served as executive producer. These shows will proceed as planned, as most have passed pre-production and production. The TWC board made the decision to fire Weinstein at a meeting held on Sunday afternoon.
