Actor Shreyas Talpade, who made his directorial debut with the film Poster Boys, has already begun spinning ideas for his second directorial venture. The actor says he would like to explore a story on the life of an underdog, something similar to his Bollywood acting debut, Iqbal (2005).

“I started my career with such a story that has stayed with me. I’m deeply inspired by Iqbal. The role inspired me as an actor also. So, I want to make a film on those lines,” says Talpade, who is working on a couple of stories, but hasn’t penned a script yet.

A huge fan of filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee and his school of movies, the 41-year-old wants to bring that essence in the films directed by him. “I’m inspired by his kind of filmmaking, humour and storytelling. I don’t know if my next project will be a drama or issue-based. I’ll decide on the basis of my state of mind,” he says.

Poster Boys was an official remake of the 2014 Marathi hit Poshter Boyz. The film, starring Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Shreyas himself, was inspired by a real life incident about three men whose pictures featured on a vasectomy poster. Talking about the film, he says, “The story of the film was close to my heart. I did think of directing the film, but hadn’t planned it as such. It just happened.”

The film got an average response at the box office and Talpade is happy about it. He says, “The response from the audience has been positive and most people were pleasantly surprised. A lot of people didn’t expect me to turn director. I think it’s a good space to be in.”
