‘What is Akanksha fighting for now?’
Out of the blue, two years after his brother Zorawar separated from his wife, cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been named in a domestic violence case, filed by his estranged sister-in-law Akanksha Sharma, known as a Bigg Boss 10 contestant.
Mother Shabnam Singh, also named as co-accused, along with Yuvi and Zorawar, is furious, especially as the rumours are snowballing, and people are asking if Yuvraj is arrested. “This is torture,” says Shabnam, asking, “What is Akanksha fighting for after two years? Clearly, she is not fighting for her marriage or [for] Zorawar. What justice is she seeking [through] these baseless allegations?”
Their lawyer, Damanbir Singh Sobti, will file a response in court today. The Singhs were served with a notice on October 18, after Akanksha filed a petition, accusing the three of them of domestic violence. Sobti points out, “There’s no culpability fixed, no criminal FIR, and no inquiry. You can also file a petition against a dead person and put a `10 stamp on it, and get a notice issued by misstating.”
In her petition, Akanksha’s lawyer stated that Yuvraj was a silent spectator to all the alleged “mental and financial violence” that her client faced, and so he’s an equal party to it. Shabnam retorts, “In all her interviews and also on Bigg Boss, Akanksha said that Yuvi was like a brother and a guide. Now she has eaten her words for reasons known to one and all.”
Akanksha moved out of her matrimonial home in Sept 2015. Sobti says that it was Zorawar who “got sick” of Akanksha’s “mental cruelty and drug abuse”, and filed for divorce. It’s still pending.
