Deepika’s most challenging dance number yet
Actor Deepika Padukone has teamed up with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali once again for
Padmavati, following two successful films, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015). And now, the Padmavati team is all set to launch the film’s first song, Ghoomar.
According to a source, ghoomar, a traditional dance form performed by princesses and queens in Rajasthan, is considered a reflection of their cultural upbringing, and it every move spells grace and elegance. The song has been composed by Bhansali and sung by Shreya Ghoshal.
A source from the team says, “Deepika spent hours training under the guidance of Jyothi D Tommaar, assistant director and trustee of Gangaur Ghoomar Dance Academy. The performance has been choreographed by Kruti Mahesh Midya.”
About how challenging the dance form was, Deepika says, “I started preparing for this film and character several months before we started filming. But it was for the Ghoomar song [sequence] that I walked onto the set as Padmavati for the first time.
“The shooting of the film began with this song, and I’ll never forget that day. I remember approaching my mark for the first shot. It was almost as if Padmavati’s soul had entered my body. I could feel her presence; and, in fact, I still do. It’s one of those rare moments in an actor’s life where it’s going to take a very long time before it actually leaves the system.”
