Ahuge fan base doesn’t seem to satiate the creative appetite of TV actors, and something else besides TV shows, seems to have caught their fancy now. A number of popular names in the recent past have made forays into music videos.

Suyyash Rai, who, with his track, Beparwaahiyaan, has shifted his attention entirely towards his musical career, says “All my dreams are related to music now. The best compliment I’ve got for my music is that I’ve completed the work that was left unfulfilled in my last birth. People say my music has soul.”

Actor Gautam Rode, who is making a comeback to music videos with Sunwai, feels that it helps an actor grow. “Back in 2000, I must have done over 1516 music videos, and the trend is coming back, with young audiences as consumers. Each new thing you try takes you a level higher,” he says.

With actors Sanjeeda Sheikh, Aamir Ali, and Mrunal Jain also venturing into music videos, the shift has been seen as not only financially rewarding, but creatively fulfilling, and for Laagi Tujhse Lagan actor Mishal Raheja, it helped give vent to his love for singing and dancing.

“The money is fine, with less number of working days. It’s a welcome change,” says Mrunal Jain, who featured in a music video in 2014.

However, there is a growing perception that music videos offer a distraction from the monotonous routine of daily soaps, but Aashka Goradia, recently seen in the music video, Chilman Se, disagrees.

“Daily soaps and music videos aren’t comparable. Today, interesting content goes digital, and as an actor, if you get an opportunity, you should make the most of it. By doing a music video, you’re keeping a song to your own memory forever,” she says.
