ANUSHKA NOT READY TO DIRECT A MOVIE

Anushka Sharma holds forth on work goals and shunning trolls

Barely three years into film production, actor Anushka Sharma is already experimenting with subjects and making movies that are off-beat. Her next home production, in which she plays the lead, is a mysterious love story. How soon before she tries her hand at the third major aspect of filmmaking — direction? “I have never planned things. And I guess that has worked for me so far. That’s just who I am as a person,” she replies. That means, she isn’t saying yes and she isn’t saying no. “By telling you I’m not going to do it, there’s no guarantee that I am 100 per cent not going to do it. But I’m not actively thinking about direction yet, at the moment,” says Anushka. On switching hats, and how she manages to slip into different characters on screen, the actor says that she has completely “streamlined” her life. “I have no time for anything futile. I constantly want to keep getting better,” asserts Anushka. “I focus on only what needs to be done. It may get difficult; but at least I’m not doing faltu ki cheez. I’m focussing on what I really have to,” adds the actor.

For someone who is so focussed, do social media form a distraction? And how does she handle trolls? “I don’t take it at face value. I think it shows you the kind of society we live in,” says Anushka. “You feel sad that people can be so rude and mean. I’m not just talking about the things that they’ve said to me, but generally the kind of things they’ve managed to say to other people also. It makes me sad. I care about the world that we live in and the environment we’re going to bring our kids into, and the world it is becoming.”

She further says, “I feel sad when for no rhyme or reason, people pull someone down, and say something without knowing a thing about their lives, and their struggles... I think about the people who’re being nasty, and think about how sad their lives must be. Personally, I am a ‘live and let live’ kind of person. I’m quite chilled out, and don’t take it to my heart.”
