What makes an outfit great? Apart from the person wearing it, it could be a lot of other interesting things, such as the sleeves or the neckline or a jacket that you decide to pair your outfit with. With Christmas and New Year’s Eve nearing, picking the right outfit for a party can be quite a task. You could either opt for the classic black dress or experiment with an array of stylish options that fashion designers Purva Pardeshi, Mansi and Megha Shah, Dimpy Khera and Fatema Imran have in mind to get the party started.

WHAT’S UP YOUR SLEEVE?

Experimenting with various kinds of sleeves has made waves this season and every celebrity in B-town was spotted flaunting the new trend. “Playing with the sleeves this season can be a big win, but one should make sure that the rest of the ensemble is simple and minimal,” says Mansi. From pleated and ruffled sleeves to sleeves with bling and volume, they have definitely stood out this season. “You could also add a slight bling to your ruffled or pleated sleeves. When it comes to silhouettes, the trick is to with a little metallic tou and volume this season. One should r tops with volume on the sleeves is a trend to look forward to, and velvet tops are also a good option You could also op for fur and feather tops,” says Megha.

Style tip: If you are opting for long sleeves wit ruffles, ensure you keep your food and drinks at a distance. You don’t want your sleeves to end up being takeaway bags at the end of the night.

ALL FOR JACKETS

From embroidered patterns to sequins, jackets have been a go to outfit for many this year. You could incorporate them in your ensemble. With velvet making its way into many ensembles this year, Fatema Imran suggests that when used in a jacket, it makes for a fine party outfit. “For me the velvet jacket is the flavour of the season. The rich feel and the royal look of the velvet abric can be your look r this New Year’s ve party,” adding, ne can also try body-con lacy ress worn ith an versize equin jacket a bolero cket.” Style tip: If u love dancing oose a jacket that is light weight and airy because you don’t want to end up soaking in sweat before you wish your friends with a hug. If required, take the jacket off before you hit the dance floor.

TASSEL TALES

Be it skirts, tops or dresses, tassels and fringes were a fun trend designers across the globe loved experimenting with this year. “What’s amazing about tassels is how they add dimension and volume in all the right ways. Fringes have always been a favourite and the New Year’s Eve is a perfect time to flaunt it. They are chic and give out boho vibes to any outfit they are on. The subtle touches of fringes on dresses make them the perfect evening wear,” says Dimpy Khera.

Style tip: Incorporate tassels or fringes only once in your ensemble. Do not go overboard. You do not want to look like a pom pom at a party.

THE SEQUIN STORY

Sequins are a great accessory on any outfit, sequined ackets, dresses, or tops, you name it, and you got it. From matching coloured sequins with your outfit, to mixing and matching, sequins can work wonders this party season. “New Year’s Eve means shimmer and bling, and sequins make an outfit look edgy. Also, the colours of these sequins make an outfit look like high end couture wear,” says Purva Pardeshi.

Style tip: While choosing an outfit with sequins, make sure the sequins placed near the neckline or hemlines are blunt because you don’t want to get bruised.

Show off your dance moves in this monochrome outfit with fringes. It’s powerful around the shoulders and playful below the waist. A balanced and fun look, you can accessorise it with a pair of statement earrings. Rock the party in these metallic pleated sleeves. They are fun and fan out when you put your hands up in the air. You could team the top with denim shorts or a skirt. You can wear statement neck pieces like shown in the image on the left. A nice chunky ring with or without colour will also work in terms of accessories. Alternatively, a head gear with feathers or pearls would add a nice vintage touch to this sequined ensemble. Go for an embroidered jacket and team it up with a pastel satin slip dress. Pull up your sleeves and accessorise it with chunky rings and bracelets and you are ready to party.
