‘Hyderabad is home for me’

Rana Daggubati has a busy line-up for 2018, with two regional films and a Hindi project coming up. The actor has also been increasingly focusing on his career in Hindi cinema, but will he ever shift base to Mumbai?

“I travel to Mumbai two to three times a month. I have a house in Santacruz. I did think about shifting base earlier, but there are multiple flights that help me get here in an hour. But Hyderabad is home, because my family is here and I’ve lived here most of my life. The convenience of space you get in Hyderabad is hard to leave behind,” he says.

Talking about the distinctive qualities of the two cities, he shares, “Hyderabad is relatively more relaxed. Things don’t move here at the same pace that they do in Mumbai. In Mumbai, you’re always multi-tasking. But I like that about the city. My friends tell me that I am like a Mumbai guy living in Hyderabad, because of how much and the way I work.”

Besides exploring Hindi cinema, the actor is also looking to explore production on the small screen.

Talking about multitasking, he says, “That’s the fun part of being in the movie business — you get to do many things you like. I don’t need a vacation from work. I’ve been in the movies for quite long now and I’ve begun exploring other mediums.”

Ask the actor about the first movie that left a lasting impact on him, and he says, “Star Wars had a huge impact on me. I was in seventh grade when I saw it and it left me wondering that cinema could be like that too.”

He adds, “It was a world I was drawn into. I think the spectacle cinema I do today is related to that.”

Rana says that he admires actor Ranbir Kapoor when asked who he likes from the younger generation of actors in Hindi cinema.

“I am fond of Ranbir’s work. I know some of his films didn’t work at the box office, but he is experimenting with new and different subjects. It’s amazing that he is doing such work,” says the Baahubali actor.
