Padmaavat will make India proud, hopes Ranveer

Throughout 2017, Ranveer Singh — along with his costars, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor — shot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama, Padmavati (now titled Padmaavat). But the film wasn’t released as planned, due to the objections raised by the Rajput community.

It has finally been greenlighted for a release later this month. Ranveer feels that “whatever happened [with the delay] was unfortunate”.

“Nothing was in my hands. I did what I could, and that was to do the best when it came to my performance,” the actor told us in a recent interview.

He had said then, “From the lead actors to the light men, everyone has put so much toil into [the film]. So, it’s very unfortunate that this had to happen. People have invested so much of their heart, soul and life into this film.”

Now, with the dark clouds blown away, Ranveer hopes that Padmaavat will be a great film for the audiences. “When it releases, hopefully, it will be a memorable movie,” he says, “something that our industry and people of our country can be proud of. People can say, here is India making worldclass cinema as well.”

Ranveer will shoot for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba this year — that’s a film he’s really looking forward to; but first, he has to finish Gully Boy. “I used to literally manifest that one day, I’d do a film with Rohit Shetty, and now I’m doing it. It feels great that all this is happening in the same year, on the back of Padmaavat, which is looking so good,” he says.
