‘I love my soil, and I can die for my motherland’

Singer Kailash Kher has given his soulful voice to anthems for Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Beti Padhao campaigns, but he says the anthem for Bharat Ke Veer initiative “is completely different from the rest”. As a part of the initiative, the Home Ministry has set up a website to allow people to directly transfer funds to martyred soldiers’ families.

Ahead of the launch of the website and the song by actor Akshay Kumar on Saturday (January 20), Kailash says he is extremely proud of the song. “This, by far, is my career’s most passionate project. I have sung for many campaigns but this song is completely different from the rest. Everyone talks about encouraging our soldiers to fight and be brave but no one really salutes them for their bravery and what they do for this country [by means of a song],” says Kher.

“I love my soil, and I can die for my motherland. This soil has made me, and I would do everything in my power, to make sure that people respect those who sacrifice their lives to save us,” he adds.

The singer considers it his responsibility to compose songs for such important causes. “If they were only working for salaries, they wouldn’t be there protecting people when there’s a natural calamity. They believe that they have to protect us, no matter what the situation or problem is. It’s this passion that I want to salute,” he maintains.

It took Kher a little over a month to write, compose and mix the entire song. “When one is asked to contribute a song for such causes, people tend to cut corners and not do justice to it. But, I went the extra mile to make it special. For instance, I have used over 50 musicians in just the strings section of the song,” he says.

The Home Ministry called me last month, they asked if I would contribute to the initiative Bharat Ke Veer. The project is very close to my heart KAILASH KHER SINGER
