Neha Dhupia once tried to copy Priyanka Chopra’s style

She has been making fashion statements and believes in experimenting with her sartorial sense. So, it won’t be wrong to say that actor Neha Dhupia is at the top of her style game. But, the actor reveals that there was a time when she used to copy other female stars from Bollywood only to end up with bizarre results.

“The first thing I would do — when I was younger — was to compare myself with other people, and I would be like ‘if this actor is wearing a golden sari with a high ponytail and lenses, let me do the same thing’. I still remember this incident where Priyanka Chopra looked hot in a golden sari and the next day, I wore the same thing and ended up looking like an idiot,” laughs Neha.

However, the actor says that she has matured with age, and no longer feels the need to compare herself with other people.

“Now, I do my own thing. Call it a bed sheet, a curtain or effortless chic — I dress the way I want to, I choose the product I want to, and I say things that I want to. While aping other people and trying to be somebody else, you [tend to] end up making mistakes,” adds Neha, who maintains that she doesn’t pay much heed to what people say about her style choices.

Neha, who was last seen in the film Tumhari Sulu (2017), shares that everyone goes through this learning phase and she was no different. Going down memory lane, she recalls how she came to the city with a return ticket in hand, but she’s glad that she never had to use it.

“Somebody told me that this is short lived and in a few years, you won’t have much to do. I was 21 when I came to Mumbai with an air ticket to go back in two months. I packed my bags and told my parents that I’d be back soon. I still have that return ticket which I bought for ₹ 3,500 and I am blessed that I never had to use it,” says Neha.
