Sonam to felicitate hygiene champions
For the past several days, she has been speaking her mind vis-à-vis menstrual hygiene, as part of promoting her next release, Pad Man.
Now, we have come to know that ahead of the film’s release (on February 9), actor Sonam Kapoor has been invited by a national multiplex chain with regard to their She’s Ambassador programme, launched last year in the presence of Dr Nadir Patel, Canadian High Commissioner. Author and Pad Man producer Twinkle Khanna will attend the function, with Sonam.
“Based on hygiene, health, well-being and using cinema as a medium for learning, the programme is in tandem with Pad Man. In its endeavour to felicitate young girls who have championed the messages of health and hygiene, they will be honoured with the Pretty Powerful Pad Man Award. And for this, Sonam has been invited to grace the initiative,” said an insider.
When contacted, Sonam said, “These young girls, who have championed the cause of health and hygiene, deserve to be recognised for their contributions, and I hope this sets an example.”
Sonam has, despite all her commitments, happily made time for this event. Recently, she and Pad Man director R Balki visited a Mumbai school to interact with school girls and distributed sanitary pads.
“At that time, too, to further the cause of raising awareness about menstrual hygiene, Sonam mingled with young ‘Health Ambassadors’ across Mumbai, presented awards, and urged the girls to be confident and unashamed of their biology,” said the insider.
