DIANA FEELS BIOPICS ARE NOT EASY

- Monika Rawal Kukreja

Actor Diana Penty, who started her Bollywood career with masala entertainers, such as, Cocktail (2012) and Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016), shifted her focus to more content-driven films recently. In 2017, she was seen in Lucknow Central that was based on a true story of prisoner musicians and she will be next seen in Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, a story based on nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by the Indian Army at Pokhran in 1988. Diana feels in films based on true events, there’s a lot of research required.

“For films, based on true events, filmmakers deal with the subject with added sensitivity because there you can’t tamper with facts.

They are clear about what they want from the characters. When you get such direction, it’s easier to perform,” says Diana. So, if narratives based on true events interest her, will the 32-year-old be seen in a biopic in future? “Oh, it would be amazing to do a biopic, but I think it would be tough. However, I love to challenge myself and would love to play someone on screen,” she says.

And when asked whom does she wants to play on screen, Diana says, “I haven’t singled out one person. There are many accomplished people. I’ve been inspired by sports personalities, musicians and politicians. It would be unfair to pick one name.” However, she says before affirming to a biopic, she would consider many factors. “I need to read the person’s story to figure out if I can do justice to the role. And, as an actor, you cannot pick a name randomly. You need to imbibe the character to portray her journey convincingly on screen,” she concudes.
