I’M NOT AN ACCIDENTAL ACTOR: BHUMI

Pednekar also says that she has ‘subconsciously’ worked towards becoming a film actor from a young age

Clearly, Bhumi Pednekar couldn’t have asked for a better start to this year. To begin with, her name is listed in this year’s Forbes India 30 Under 30. And, a couple of days back, the actor also represented Indian cinema at the Berlin International Film Festival. “It feels very special,” says Bhumi as she talks about the honours and more.

You just represented India at Berlin...

I went with a delegation that was headed by filmmaker Karan Johar. Honestly, it feels amazing and special, as it has happened so early in my career. I will complete three years in Bollywood on February 27. It especially feels nice to know that all this is happening only because of my films. It shows that your films have left a mark. Whatever little knowledge I have, people listened to it (at the session).

It must be a really special feeling?

Actually, I have always felt special because of the films that I have been associated with. And at the end of it, you are loved only if your films are loved. I have always said that I feel lucky and have a lot of gratitude to have got such characters and opportunities. And for Berlin Film Fest, I am really passionate about my country. So, the fact that I got to represent it, felt great. Everything that I wanted [in life] is happening. So, I am thankful to god. You are also part of the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, this year. How rich are you? I think that richness is a very subjective thing (laughs). I am rich, thanks to the love and appreciation that I have got over the past few years. I remember when they had started this list, I dreamt of being on it one day. Now, being featured on the list makes me really happy. I feel privileged and honoured to be featured among such amazing people from different fields including innovation, sports and entertainment.

Clearly, you have started 2018 on a great note…

Yes, it was a great way for me to start the year because the news came right at the beginning of the year. I get a sense of satisfaction due to my choices, and also the patience that I showed after my first film. So, every decision of mine feels right. I went with my gut feeling, and chose stories over projects. So I’m really kicked.

You are just three years old in Bollywood. Does it all still feel like a dream?

A 100%. But it’s been a childhood dream. I am not an accidental actor. I wanted these things from a young age. I think, subconsciously, I have always worked towards it, and now I am bearing the fruit of it. At the end of the day, your craft or art gets validated when you get better work. I am so happy with the kind of work that I am going to do even in the future.
