Saqib and Taapsee were apt to play Sumit and Koroli

There are many challenges that one faces while making a film. There are a thousand things to get right, the first and foremost being getting the cast right. But in debutant filmmaker Aleya Sen’s case the task was quite stress free thanks to the crackling chemistry between Saqib Saleem and Taapsee Pannu.

The director had met the actors on the sets of a music video and mistook them for a couple because they both seemed to be so comfortable in each other’s company. So when Dil Juunglee came up Aleya couldn’t think of anyone but these two.

“Aleya is a very sincere filmmaker. She is confident and clear about what she wants. When she narrated the script we were sold on the idea and gave the nod then itself. Finding our Sumit and Koroli was what took the maximum time, and I don’t think anyone could have played these roles better than Taapsee and Saqib. I love their chemistry on screen, which is why when I was shown the music video, I gave

my nod to the pair instantly” says producer Jackky Bhagnani “Their chemistry was magical. The first impression had such an impact that I was confident that this Jodi would be a hit on screen. The film is about love and friendship and they (Taapsee and Saqib) share such a great bond offscreen which clearly reflects in the film. As far as the characters are concerned, Saqib is like Sumit Uppal. I don’t see him as Saqib. He is the character he’s playing. Whenever I am around him I feel like I’m with Sumit. Taapsee on the other hand is the total opposite of Koroli, but the way she surrenders to the script is commendable! She slips into Koroli’s shoes with such an ease!” says director Aleya Sen.
