Lip love: Try jojoba oil, balms with superfoods
Hot days of summer might be here already, but one winter practice that you must continue is using a lip balm. Hydrated, healthy lips can elevate your appearance. So, opting for balms infused with superfoods such as blueberries, and exfoliating chapped lips with a product that includes coconut oil or jojoba oil and brown sugar, is the way to go, say experts.
LIPFRIENDLY INGREDIENTS
Blueberries contain antioxidants that protect from premature ageing. Grapefruits and mandarins are rich in vitamin A and C, minerals and antioxidants. Also, the potassium present in the grapefruit provides a protective shield against UV rays. Cranberries contains a high percentage of vitamin B3, vitamin B5 and antioxidants, making it useful in shielding you from any harm caused by environmental factors.
EXFOLIATE RIGHT
Apply a thin layer of a multipurpose organic balm. Then using a soft toothbrush, gently scrub the dead skin off. Make sure you’re using a new toothbrush for this purpose so you don’t scrub toothpaste into your lip’s delicate skin or dead skin cells onto your teeth. Here’s a recipe for an easy, inexpensive scrub: Mix together a little organic coconut oil with granulated sugar, and scrub your lips with it. Rinse it off with water and apply lip balm. Combine rose water and glycerine, and apply it to your lips. While rosewater will leave a light pink tint on your lips, the glycerine will take away the dry and dead skin. For nourishment and an intense moisturising effect, use jojoba oil. Mix it with brown sugar, and scrub your lips with it for smooth lips that are free from dirt and dryness. Massage it in for not more than 3-4 minutes. Green tea oil is full of goodness and antioxidants that can help calm and reduce redness, and reveal healthy radiance. It, therefore, makes for the perfect scrub for this time of the year to help prolong the summer glow. When applied topically, it is an effective treatment for preventing bleeding lips.
