Akshay Dogra considers his first two television shows, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and 12/24 Karol Bagh, his stepping stones to showbiz. But the actor believes that it was Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon that made him popular.

“The show opened me up as an actor. Though my character was an introvert, it added to the story. So, there was scope for me to give my best. Playing negative roles also helped. Jagan (Akshay’s character in Waaris) had many layers and was always plotting. Getting into the skin of such a negative character was difficult,” says Akshay.

Actors often get typecast after one successful role and given that Akshay was praised for Jagan’s character, is he being offered similar roles? He answers in the affirmative and adds, “I look at it in a different way. If a character appeals to me, I won’t mind playing the antagonist again. Also, other than the lead pair, the third most popular character in TV shows is the negative one.”

Akshay shares that he wants to do a comedy show next.

“Having started with comedy (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), I would love to do another one. When I was working on the show, the director had told me that I’ll always thank him and that such a show won’t come back in my life. He was absolutely right. Unlike other genres, it’s not easy to pull off comedy and I think this is the best time for me to do another one,” he shares.
