Why Tiger chose SOTY 2

After featuring in a string of films such as Baaghi (2016) and A Flying Jatt (2016), replete with daredevil stunts, actor Tiger Shroff has cemented his position as an action star in Bollywood. Tiger, who made his acting debut in 2014 with Heropanti, will yet again be seen doing power-packed stunts in his upcoming release Baaghi 2.

However, he has chosen Student of the Year 2 (SOTY 2) as his next project, in which the actor will be seen in a completely different avatar. In the film, which is a sequel to Karan Johar’s 2012 hit directorial, Tiger will move away from his macho image and transform into a naive student.

“I am trying something else with SOTY 2 that’s a complete contrast from Baaghi 2. I am getting bullied and beaten up [in Baaghi 2]. Here (SOTY2), it is the opposite,” Tiger said.

The actor went on to clarify that the decision to take up the film, which will be helmed by Punit Malhotra, was not taken with the intention of breaking away from the action hero stereotype.

“I don’t have much action in the film (SOTY 2) [but] I didn’t choose it to break the stereotype. It was an honour to work with the production banner,” he said.

“It is Karan Johar’s baby franchise, his prized possession, and he is passing it on to me; so there’s an expectation. I take huge pride in taking the legacy forward of SOTY,” he added.

Tiger added that the film will give him a platform to showcase a different side to his acting skills.

“For me, it’s great as an actor to explore different roles. I’ve never played a regular, normal lover boy. If I get bullied there, the audience will be surprised. Suddenly after Baaghi 2, here I am getting bullied. So for me, that’s scoring marks,” he said.
