Sonam and Anand say ‘I do’
Sonam Kapoor married Anand Ahuja yesterday in an Anand Karaj (Sikh) ceremony amidst family and friends. After a close-knit mehendi on May 7, the actor tied the knot with her businessman beau in a morning nuptial ceremony at her aunt Kavita Singh’s bungalow in Bandra. Sonam looked radiant in a red and gold lehenga by designer Anuradha Vakil, whereas Anand wore a gold bandhgala and bejewelled turban, a Raghvendra Rathore creation, for the day. While the dress code for the mehendi was ‘shades of white’, the wedding ceremony saw guests shining bright in traditional Indian ensembles.
Family and close friends reached the venue much before the celebrities and guests walked in. Sonam’s father, Anil Kapoor, her brothers Harshvardhan, Arjun Kapoor and Mohit Marwah, her uncle Sanjay Kapoor and his wife Maheep, as well as Boney Kapoor and his daughters Janhvi and Khushi, were among the first to arrive. Anil wore a white kurta and straight-fit pants with an emerald necklace, while Arjun walked in with sister Anshula in a dapper blue waistcoat and kurta and white pants. Cousins Janhvi and Khushi kept the look elegant and understated in Manish Malhotra lehengas for the occasion.
The day saw the who’s who of B-Town in attendance, including Aamir Khan with wife Kiran Rao and his son, Junaid; Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, and Jacqueline Fernandez. Sonam’s Veere Di Wedding co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan arrived with husband Saif Ali Khan and son Taimur — the father and son were seen twinning in baby pink kurta-pyjamas, while Kareena looked stunning in a pastel pink lehenga, a tied-up bun and chandelier earrings. The festivities ended with a party at a five-star hotel
in Mumbai.
The Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja wedding was preceded by a sangeet, for which white was the dress code. From co-stars and family to friends, the celebration, held in Mumbai, had all in attendance. Many celebs took to Instagram to share pics from the party. Sonam wore a chikankari lehenga by Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. Designer Tamara Ralph (from label Ralph & Russo) and actors Karisma Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were among those present.
