Jasleen Royal wants to travel and find untapped talent in small towns

Busy as she is with her work engagements, singer and composer Jasleen Royal still finds time to scout for new talent. The singer, who has a show in Bangalore next month, and pending work in films, is currently on a trip to Punjab.

“I travel to a lot of places, and I am planning to go to different villages here (Punjab). I meet a lot of people, but I don’t know what I am going to do with that,” she says, laughing.

Jasleen makes it a point to search for untapped talent on unplanned trips as these. “Recently, I met this guy who plays the tumbi [a traditional north Indian musical instrument] near Ludhiana and he’s known as ‘tumbi wala’. I am working on a song, so he played the tumbi on its tune. When he sang the song to base his tune on, I loved his voice. I am aiming to get such people, who have not been discovered,” reveals Jasleen, whose song Laaj Sharam from Veere Di Wedding has got a good response.

The 26-year-old has earlier composed music for Fukrey Returns, Baar Baar Dekho, and Phillauri. Asked if she is content with the way her career is shaping up, Jasleen says, “I don’t know, I am just making music. I am next working on a film called Gulab Jamun, which is going to hit the floors really soon. I have a song in the upcoming film Gully Boys (starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt), too. My Veere Di Wedding song came out recently, so I am in a happy space.”
