I’m adventurous, entertaining and fun-loving, says Sonakshi

Sonakshi Sinha turned a year older yesterday. She kept the celebrations lowkey and spent the day at a friend’s farmhouse with a bunch of her close pals. “I had a pretty relaxed birthday this year,” says the actor. “It was great fun to spend the day with the people I love. Given everyone’s schedules, we seldom get the time to hang out together and catch up on each other’s lives, which is what I wanted to really do this time,” she adds. Workwise, Sonakshi is taking it several notches higher with a promising lineup, including a comic caper, the multi-starrer Kalank, and Dabangg 3 with her first co-star Salman Khan. She talks about her life and career.

Birthday bashes or lowprofile celebration — what do you prefer?

I like to keep it low-key. I’ve never thrown a huge bash ever. I like to have my closest friends with me on my birthday.

Do you have most of the traits of being a Gemini?

Most people are surprised when they learn I am a Gemini. So I guess I’m not a typical one. But I do have some strong Gemini traits such as being adventurous, entertaining and fun-loving.

You have three big films this year. A good mix of content?

It’s been a great year in terms of the range of work that I’m getting to do. They’ve been pretty spaced out, so juggling them is not difficult. I just finished one and I will start shooting for Kalank this month, and Dabangg 3 after that. It’s all very exciting.

When you were offered Kalank, what was the big draw: your role, the story, or production house?

Of course, it was the role. Otherwise, it’s very easy to get lost in a star cast like this. What excited me the most about the film is how everyone plays such an important part in taking the story forward.

You share the screen with Alia Bhatt and Madhuri Dixit Nene… How’s your equation with them?

I haven’t started shooting with them yet, but I look forward to working with both. They are two of the most talented actors that Hindi cinema has seen. It’s surreal to be able to share screen space with Madhuriji. And Alia is someone I’m really fond of. Can’t wait to shoot…

Is the Dabangg franchise most special to you considering you debuted with it? Is your role probably a secondary concern?

Dabangg will always be the most special. I will be a part of the film even if they need me to do a fleeting appearance, no questions asked.

You’ve been posting a lot of workout videos lately. Are you at your fittest best?

I would have to say I am (at my fittest best). I’ve been working hard and have never felt better. My fitness mantra is ‘consistency is key’. It’s most important to just be regular with what you do.

Are you uncompromising about your workout regime?

No, I’m not fussy. I like to workout at my own pace. I like to first get the basics, before moving on to tougher stuff (form of exercises). I like to enjoy the process rather than treat it as a chore. The results I see in me have always been my biggest motivation. So I have to keep inspiring myself.

Everybody is different, so there’s no point in comparing yourself to others or in aiming to look like someone else. You have to aim at being the best that you can be.
