Sindhu thinks Deepika is the perfect biopic fit

With all these biopics being made in Bollywood, was it possible that one wouldn’t be made on the first female Indian athlete to win an Olympic silver medal? Of course not. So, a film is in the pipeline, backed by actor-producer Sonu Sood, and badminton champ PV Sindhu is happy — also, she thinks that actor Deepika Padukone is the perfect fit for her role.
“I think Deepika Padukone would be great; she is a very good actor. But then, I think the makers would be the best people to decide whom to cast for the film,” says the 22-year-old athlete with a smile. She also says, “I’m definitely happy that this film is happening and [am] looking forward to watching it,

like everyone else.”
Sindhu has shared with Sood all the details required to make the biopic (bilingual — in Hindi and Telugu). “I’ve given everything to Sonu Sood and he’s looking after the film quite well. They’re currently working on the film. I’m there if required, but don’t think I am, because I’ve already provided them with everything. Plus, for me, first [priority] is badminton; I’m mostly caught up with my practice and tournaments,” adds the player, who was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2016. It was her entry into the badminton women’s final of the 2016 Rio Olympics that made her a household name. Finally, India got another female badminton icon after the meteoric rise of Saina Nehwal some years ago.
Incidentally, a biopic on Saina is also being made, with actor Shraddha Kapoor playing the athlete’s role.
There were reports that Sindhu might do a cameo in her own biopic, but she says, “No, I don’t know about this. Nothing has been decided yet.”
What she does know for sure is that she wants to keep winning medals for India. In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Sindhu lost the single’s gold to Saina.
Such is the nation’s esteem now for these two players that every time they enter the court, they’re expected to win. Is that a stress factor? Sindhu says, “Well, expectations are always there. But it all boils down to how I play. I need to play my best game and keep growing. And I need to concentrate on myself. If you win, it’s a big thing for everybody, but what happens when you lose? I feel that one shouldn’t take [extra] pressure, thinking that people want you to win, but yes you have responsibilities.”
