More than screen time, the impact of her role in a film matters to Aahana

For actor Aahana Kumra, who is all for performanceoriented roles, only the script matters when she is signing a film.

“You don’t get such roles often... Raazi, for instance; how many such woman oriented roles are being written and how often? So whenever I get an offer, I read the script properly and honestly, the length of the role never bothers me. Even if I am there in three scenes, it should be impactful,” says Aahana, who is currently shooting for the film The Accidental Prime Minister, where she plays the role of Congress scion Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

“I feel for people like us, who are from a non-film background, performance and honesty are the key to success. It also paves the way for another employment — one good role leading to another,” she adds.

Aahana is also an active theatre artist. Her latest play Dekh Behen, directed by Prerna Chawla and Shikha Talsania, has been received well. Aahana proudly shares that it’s an all-women cast and crew production. “The play is about women and the issues they face. The way Shikha and Prerna have directed the narrative is very interesting. It’s a fun take on different aspects of life,” says the Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016) actor.
