Sunil Grover turns a year older today and the actor-comedian, who has been busy shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Patakha and the Salman Khan-starrer Bharat, says he loves to work on his birthday.

“I don’t go crazy on birthdays. I prefer working but I like getting good wishes from near and dear ones. One wonders which one of those will come true in the next year. Even if none does, I feel happy,” says Sunil, adding, he used to look forward to birthdays during his childhood. “Those birthdays were memorable. I’d be excited and eager for my birthday, plan the invitee list, what I would wear, and the cake I would get. We used to fill a huge balloon with toffees and burst it. All this planning was a big deal. Once I grew up, the charm of birthdays has reduced,” says Sunil, adding that he has rarely thrown a birthday party.

He recalls a birthday party from a few years ago. “It was the best gift, I’d say. A few of my friends got together on the terrace of a friend and had got a cake. They also decorated the terrace a bit. But it had started raining. So when I reached, everybody had an umbrella and we cut the cake amid the rain. It was a surprise birthday party and a really sweet gesture,” says Sunil.

Sunil has been busy shooting for his films in the last 12 months and also “doing events and travelling a lot”. The actor, who has not been a regular on television in the recent years, says, “Television is good fun and you get immediate results once your show telecasts. You have to shoot a lot in limited amount of time. While films take their own sweet time but it’s a different process and journey, which I really wanted to experience. This year, shifting mediums has been a new experience and the next 12 months will be super exciting as both the movies will release. Bharat is quite grand, a visual spectacle while Vishal sir’s movie has great storytelling and good performances. I am having fun being part of both of them, especially working with Salman sir. He is a chilled out guy and keeps the atmosphe re light on sets,” Sunil signs off.
