When Shreyas sought Celina’s help

- Yashika Mathur

Adeaf-and-mute aspiring cricketer, a scheming conman or a goofy guy in an ensemble comedy — actor Shreyas Talpade brings his Agame to every character he plays. So, set to play a Bengali writer in his next film, it was understandable that Shreyas would go to great lengths to take his character as close to reality as possible. And the Golmaal Again (2017) actor sought the help of good friend Celina Jaitly — who has spent a large part of her life in West Bengal — to learn the language.

“Shreyas and Celina have worked together in the past in Paying Guest (2009) and Golmaal Returns (2008), and share a good bonding. So, when it was finalised that Shreyas is taking up this role, he wanted to learn everything. Besides reading books and novels, he learnt how to speak Bengali from Celina and pronounce right,” says a source.

Shreyas, for his part, was happy about taking Celina’s help, and can’t stop raving about their bonding. “While shooting for Paying Guest, my wife Dipti and Celina became friends and would go out for shopping together. We would often go to each other’s place. That’s when I got to know that she speaks very fluent Bengali,” shares Shreyas.

“I wanted to understand the dialect, the nuances, the pronunciation, and the quirkiness of the language. And Celina guided me a lot with the language and gave me a lot of suggestions,” he adds.
