Parineeti Chopra picks up Bhojpuri diction for new role

Getting into the skin of the character sometimes means building a new body, sometimes learning a new skill, and sometimes even learning a new language. Actor Parineeti Chopra, who plays a girl from Bihar in her next Hindi film, titled Jabariya Jodi, has done a month-long diction training with a language coach to get her Bhojpuri accent right.

A source close to the actor tells us that diction classes were kept in accordance with Parineeti’s schedule and she made sure to have them “at least thrice a week for about one-and-a-half hours each.”

The film, reportedly based on pakadwa vivah (a practice where the groom is kidnapped by the bride’s family and forced into marriage) prevalent in parts of India, will have Parineeti paired opposite her Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) co-star Sidharth Malhotra.

Talking about her prep for the film, Parineeti says, “We actors are fortunate enough to live [as] different characters on the screen. This time, I’m playing a character based out of Bihar and I needed to perfect the Bhojpuri accent. I knew I had to master the diction before filming. I had a fun time training with my coach to get the dialect right. When I’m playing a character, I like diving deep into the small nuances.”

The source adds that the actor was particular about her dialogue delivery even before the shooting began. “Parineeti didn’t want to sound unnatural while delivering dialogues in Bhojpuri as some words are pronounced differently. This training helped her get the hang of the language,” says the source.
