‘Frowned upon’ for keeping pregnancy under wraps, Neha remains unfazed

Actor Neha Dhupia, who is expecting her first child with actor husband Angad Bedi, says that she was frowned upon for not going public about her pregnancy.

A day after Neha and Angad announced the news on social media, the couple walked the ramp at a fashion show in Mumbai. This is not the first time a pregnant actor walked on the catwalk. Earlier, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan had famously flaunted her baby bump at a fashion show.

Asked how does she see women not shying away from working during pregnancy, Neha says, “It’s amazing. I read an article about a woman who was eight months pregnant and was shooting for Black Panther and one more... (actor) Gal Gadot came back for a patchwork of her films... I’ve also continuously been working and did not go public about my situation. I was frowned upon... ‘Why is she wearing loose clothing or why is she putting on weight?’”

Neha says she wasn’t concerned about the comments though. “For me, it doesn’t matter what other people think of you as long as you are healthy and respectful to your personal and professional life and striking a balance,” she adds.

Neha married Angad in a private ceremony at a Gurudwara in New Delhi on May 10. She says Angad “is rock solid and funny”.

“He is going to become a father soon and we’re very excited... I like his relaxed attitude, which is the right kind. Neither is he laid back nor does he take life too seriously,” she says.
