When Stree calls, don’t turn around

-

Men, next time, when you hear your name being called out in the dead of the night, do not turn back because Stree is in town!

“For ages, men have been looked at as the physically stronger sex ‘jinko dard nahi hota’ but ‘ab mard ko dard hoga’,” says Amar Kaushik, who makes his directorial debut with the horror-comedy, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor.

Producer Dinesh Vijan, who is the name behind content-driven films such as Badlapur and Hindi Medium, again breaks the mould and brings this unusual tale to the audience.

Set in the town of Chanderi, Stree narrates the fascinating tale of a bride’s wandering spirit, who roams the streets for four days during an annual pooja, on a lookout for her next prey. She calls out to young, unsuspecting men, and if they turn, she takes it as their acceptance to be with her and takes them away.

Vijan says, “Indian culture has for long been entrenched in folklore, superstition and sometimes, even inexplicable encounters. Although these strange stories might be delightful to read or hear about, most of us wouldn’t want to be a part of one! As children, we have always been warned to not turn around when you hear a beautiful voice call, and as irresistible as Stree might be, I suggest you don’t.”

Dinesh Vijan presents Stree, a Maddock Films production in association with D2R films and Jio Studios. It releases today.
