Daily soap addicts can’t help but miss actor Shweta Tiwari as promos of Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 play on their TV screens. Shweta aced the role of Prerna, the lead female protagonist, in the first version of the show that was telecast from 2001 to 2008. Interestingly, it was the actor’s 17-year-old daughter Palak who was initially offered the title role in the reboot.

As an actor who earned fame as Prerna, Shweta did want her daughter to take up the role. “Yes, I would have told her to go ahead and do it. In fact, everybody was saying, even from Balaji (production house) that she should do it. It was she who said ‘No mom, I don’t think I can do a daily soap and work day in and day out. I cannot do that at this point in time,” says the actor.

It’s not just Kasautii, many TV shows were offered to Palak, but she turned them down. “She doesn’t want to divert herself from class 12th studies,” says Shweta.

The 37-year-old actor who started her career with theatre, says she never imposes her thoughts on her daughter. “I never force anything on her or tell her what to do. She’s a very intelligent girl. She wants to be an actor; she has already decided that if she will do anything in her life then it will be related to this industry. But, she’s the one who takes her own call,” says Shweta who is returning the theatre with the play Jab We Separated, directed by Rakesh Bedi.

Shweta is thankful that she has the most undemanding, sensible teenager to look after. “Palak is a responsible and intelligent girl. She doesn’t smoke or have any bad habits like other kids of her age. She never demands anything. Her deadline in the night is always 8:30pm, no matter where she goes. If it’s a night party like a birthday party, then her deadline is 11.30pm. She comes back without me having to fight with her. I have been very lucky that whenever I tell her something, she follows it. God has been kind,” says the mom.
