MFI: TRANSFORM THE BODY AND MIND WITH FOOD

-

Did you eat too much yesterday, and plan to not indulge in gluttony for a week? This idea strikes almost every one who wishes to achieve fitness. And, the road to fitness is pretty long. But, those following the 120-day campaign Mission Fit India (MFI), have covered a major path.

In its third phase, MFI — an initiative by Fever FM and My FM — is providing buddies of radio jockeys, a chance to ask questions to Suniel ki Sena, that is, actor Suniel Shetty’s team of trainers. In turn, the experts are providing useful tips via the radio stations and social media platforms.

So, when food blogger Romi Purkayastha was asked that how important is food for fitness, she said that when we think that we won’t eat, it ends up harming our body than proving beneficial. She adds, “Food is the last thing on our mind when we think about fitness. We think about going to the gym, exercising, running, doing yoga, etc. In fact, we think of reducing consumption of food. Kam khao, mat khao... aise sochte hain. But, the wire of food connects health, fitness and lifestyle. So, you shouldn’t be afraid of food, and should make food your best friend. Toh jaise apka best friend apke sab secrets janta hai, and loves you despite your flaws, and is someone you can have fun with, waise hi treat your food as something you can have fun with. You should not say things like, ‘Ye nahi khana chahiye’, ‘Ye alag rakho’, ‘Ye aaj mai nahi kha sakti’, etc. Ye ‘no’ jo hai na that harms you much more than it benefits.”

However, for a complete transformation of the body, it’s important to know what one shouldn’t eat. Dr Rishi Sherekar says there are certain food habits that we should adopt in our life to attain fitness. “Deep fried food is out of question. And, sugar — the crytalised white sugar — that’s an absolute no. Similarly, zyada salt se humein parhez karna chahiye. I’m not saying to stop taking salt at all because salt is the king in foods. But, your salt intake shouldn’t be so much that you start loving the salty feel of it; which is majorly found in junk food these days. They are very high in their sodium and preservative value. They all do extreme damage to your system.”

And, after paying attention to the dietary habits for the body’s fitness, it becomes important to intake food for the brain’s wellness as well. One of the simplest means to achieve this is by absorbing sunlight. “In the morning, one and a half hour after sunrise is a safe period. That’s say around 6.30am. Best is to take the sunlight in your eyes because it acts like food for the brain and fulfils your requirement of Omega 3, which is otherwise found in seafood, mushrooms, flaxseed oil, etc,” says Nikhil Lad, pain and posture management expert.
