‘Testosterone is Dutta sir’s favourite hormone’

Two films old in Bollywood, actor Harshvardhan Rane is satisfied with how his career is shaping up. The actor, who was recently seen in JP Dutta’s war drama Paltan, says that he isn’t one to rush to sign one film after the other.

The actor says, “I don’t know any artists who don’t put in their best. Everyone wants to be known for their films. While doing my debut film (Sanam Teri Kasam, 2016), I didn’t know if it will have a reach, and (initially) it didn’t. It got a reach only after it started playing on TV. I got some familiarity, and wanted to make sure I take that forward instead of trying to do every film.”

Harshvardhan, who has been signed on for three more projects by JP Dutta, says, “When you give an interview, you want it to be with bigger publications. Similarly, as an actor, you want to work with bigger directors. You desire a film that has a spine to it.”

Usually, actors are conscious about not doing too many films of the same kind. Dutta is primarily known for his two war dramas, Border (1997) and LOC Kargil (2003). What if the three projects turn out to be in the same genre? “I am just celebrating the fact that I am the first actor they have signed (for the three-film deal). They have worked with actors like Amitabh Bachchan sir, Vinod Khanna sir, Suniel Shetty sir, and yet chose me,” he beams.

About whether he’s afraid of doing three war films one after the other, he says, “Talking about the human anatomy, Dutta sir’s favourite hormone is testosterone. I can’t predict if he’s making a war film, but the common thread across all his films has been the mardaangi wala zone. Of course, if I do too many war films, I will be typecast, but it’s too early for me. Paltan was my second film, and it was poles apart from Sanam… which was a romantic film. It’s hard to predict what’s going to happen.”
